Kissimmee Road Art

It’s that time of year again, to enjoy some time under the sun in Florida at Kissimmee! Mecum Auctions is hosting their flagship event, and it’s always a great time, and this year they seem to have more automobilia, petroliana, and memorabilia on offer than ever. Called Road Art at Mecum, these fun pieces bolster the art of collecting, I think, they allow us to get back in touch with days gone by in a more succinct manner than the cars in a lot of ways. The Life Savers neon screams to me – I never saw one, but I practically grew up in a convenience store called Circle K. And the Dogs ‘N Suds neon is simply legendary, and both are mere snowflakes on a gigantic iceberg of Road Art coming to Kissimmee. 		Lot 659 – 1950’s Phillips 66 Double-Sided Porcelain Neon Sign It doesn’t get more original than this. A double-sided Phillips 66 neon that is still in the original shipping crate. This means this neon has been in its original crate for almost 70 years! With that being said it has nearly no blemishes and the porcelain still has the shine it came out of the factory with.
		Lot 755 – 1970’s Hemi Cuda Showroom Banner This rare piece of Mopar history comes from a Mopar showroom floor. With its vibrant colors and unique 1970’s artwork it is a highly sought after piece for any Cuda collector. Not many have been preserved in this condition. Reaching 12 feet long, this huge Dealership advertisement can’t be missed.
		Lot 760 – 1950’s Dog N Suds Single-Sided Porcelain Neon Sign with Chasers This original 1950s Dog N Suds from the Lindley Collection is an absolute must have for any neon collector. The neon pairing with the arrow chaser on top of the sign is sure to get anyone’s attention.
		Lot 839 – Plymouth Road Runner Superbird Pedal Car The Plymouth Road Runner Superbird Pedal car is a highly sought after piece of Road Art that can take anyone’s memorabilia collection to the next level. This bright orange Superbird pedal car would match up perfectly with any Mopar collection.
		Lot 841 – 1950 Dairy Queen Clown Double-Sided Tin Neon Sign Curly the clown was introduced on July 11th 1951. This piece of advertising history is a hand painted neon sign and has a motorized waving hand that lets passing customers know that Dairy Queen was open. These signs were made with a Vanilla Cone and a Chocolate cone. This is a rare opportunity to add a unique piece of advertising history to your collection.
		Lot 939 – Dabney’s Drive-In Double-Sided Painted Tin Neon Sign The Dabney’s neon sign is an iconic piece of road side history. With its life size 1957 Chevrolet mounted underneath the Dabney’s arrow it is sure to catch the attention of anyone driving past.
