Indoor storage preserves your classic or even modern vehicle by far. Otherwise, outdoor weather leads to accelerated depreciation (and not just it’s monetary value). For example, faster deterioration occurs with mechanical and electrical systems as well as interior and painted surfaces. Outdoor car covers can help but are no substitute to fully enclosed storage! For a nominal investment, your car, truck or motorcycle will be protected from extreme cold, heat, intense sunlight, wind, rain or snow. Finally, rodent damage is much more unlikely while the threat of break-ins or thefts are eliminated.
Many considerations should be made when looking for a storage facility:
Outdoor Unmarked Building
Security– How well is the building and surrounding premises secured and insured? Is the building discreet with no signs to keep prying eyes away? Does the property limit access to storage clients only?
Location– Is the distance from your home or work within reason to pick up or drop off your car? Is the facility near major roads, public transportation or airport?
Climate control and air quality– Are temperature extremes limited within the building? Good ventilation ensures air quality and prevents high levels of carbon monoxide from exhaust fumes.
Convenience– What kind of access do you have to picking up or dropping off your car? Does the location offer a 365 day access, specific hours or operate by appointment only? Do you retrieve your car yourself or is it delivered outside their garage door by a facility employee? Can you park your daily driver on the premises?
Routine Start up and Movement– While all stored vehicles should be started and moved on a regular basis, are there personnel at the facility that can do that for you in your absence? When started, are the stored cars run until they reach normal operating temperature?
Other Features– Does the facility offer other services such as maintaining your battery and protecting your tires from developing flat spots?
