DESCRIPTION:New Jersey Motorsports Park –  Thunderbolt Driving School\nMon & Tue\, October 2 & 3\, 2023\n\n\nSitting on more than 500 acres in Millville\, N.J.\, New Jersey Motorsports Park is the premier motorsport entertainment complex in the Northeast. NJMP is conveniently located near Philadelphia and New York City\, offering diverse and dynamic attractions both on and off-track. The Park includes two world-class road courses: Thunderbolt and Lightning. For this year’s event\, we will be on Thunderbolt for both days. \nThe southern road circuit at New Jersey Motorsports Park is our signature Thunderbolt Raceway featuring 2.25 miles of asphalt\, 12 challenging turns\, a one half mile straightway and approximately 40 acres of full service paddock space. Amenities on this circuit include concession buildings\, event garages\, twenty (20) VIP Suites\, banquet rooms\, and a three (3) story timing tower with media center. Click here for a detailed Thunderbolt track map. \n\nRegistration Fees\nStudents:  $395 for one day //  $595 for two days.\nInstructors: Event fees are waived in appreciation of your instruction.What is a High Performance Driving School?\nThe purpose of a driving school is quite simple: to improve your driving skills. We conduct the school on a racetrack under the close supervision of experienced and trained instructors. You will learn how to handle and control your vehicle at speeds not normally attained on public roads. This will help to prepare you for emergencies in normal driving. It will also allow you to explore your capabilities as a driver and those of your vehicle in a controlled environment. At no time will you be encouraged to go any faster than is comfortable. All participants will be organized into run groups in accordance with experience\, skill\, and type of vehicle. \nWhat you learn on the track depends on your driving skill. Beginners are taught driving style (smoothness\, consistency\, the ability to read the track)\, more experienced participants continue to work on consistency\, while developing new skills such as trail braking and threshold braking. As a beginner\, every time you are on the track\, you will have an experienced instructor with you in the passenger seat. \nFor experienced drivers\, you can be “signed off” and drive solo when you have proven to your instructor and the Chief Instructor that you understand the basics of high speed driving\, you can consistently drive the correct line\, and you show proper etiquette on track. Maturity\, good judgment\, skill\, and significant experience will lead to being signed off for solo driving. \nThough you are on a racetrack\, other drivers of similar driving skills\, it is not a race. Passing in corners is not allowed\, and you are not expected to shift at redline\, or go screaming through each corner with the tires squealing. Safety of the event is of the utmost importance. Driver conduct will be diligently monitored throughout the day by the staff\, instructors\, and corner workers.\n  \nTrack Time\nYou will have four on-track sessions each day varying from 20-30 minutes each. At the end of the 2-day event you will have had between 3-4 hours on-track over the two days. That’s a lot of driving time and a lot of personalized high-quality instruction.\n  \nClassroom\nYour day is divided between driving on the track\, classroom sessions\, and free time. Yes\, this is a school\, and there is mandatory classroom time. All participants are required to attend classroom sessions throughout the day to learn vehicle dynamics and driving techniques. \nIn the classroom\, you learn a lot of high speed driving theory. Learn about the difference between an early and late apex. You’ll get a better understanding of car dynamics so you understand what is really happening when you brake or why your car understeers or oversteers in certain circumstances. Each classroom will also include an opportunity for Q&A.\n  \nDo I need to own an Audi?\nWe welcome all makes of cars  — you don’t have to drive an Audi to enjoy our events. This school is an excellent way for you to improve your driving skills and have fun too!   \nAll participants must simply be members of the Audi Club of North America (ACNA).  There is a $49 fee for annual membership. We love welcoming first-timers to our events and we have a good number of first-timers at each one – you will not be alone.  Your novice classroom teacher and your personal instructor are ready to make you comfortable and give you the tools and confidence to enjoy driving your car on the race-track. Don’t forget – this is not competition driving. There is no overtaking in corners or racing other cars. This event offers a maximum track exposure of up to eight (8) hours per day\, advanced classroom sessions related to high performance driving with an option to request an Audi Club instructor/coach or bring your own individual coach pending Audi Club CI approval. Don’t miss out on expert instruction by special guests who will provide specialized workshops and interactive sessions throughout the event! \nThe structure of this event is as follows: \n\nOpen to Advanced Solo run group drivers (Group 2 – Black\, Group 1 – Red)\, current instructors\, and those with a current race license from an approved sports car racing sanctioning organization (e.g.\, SCCA\, NASA\, PCA\, BMW CCA\, IMSA\, etc.).\nThe open track format will maximize run and on-track coaching time while taking into consideration opportunities to access guest experts and specialized workshops.\nOur guest experts will offer sessions covering topics related to high performance driving skills and techniques as well as chassis setups.  All are welcome to attend.\n\nGeneral Driver School event rules & regulations related to Age & Licensing\, Driver Level/Group Guidelines\, Open Top and High Center of Gravity Vehicles\, Helmets\, and Refunds and Cancellations listed on the Driver School Event Rules page are also valid\, so please review! \nEvent requirements \n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou must be an Advanced Solo (not simply solo as in Audi Club Group 3 – Blue or PCA Whte) run group driver (i.e. Audi Club Group 2 – Black and Group 1 – Red)\, current instructor\, or hold a current race license from an approved sports car racing sanctioning organization (e.g.\, SCCA\, NASA\, PCA\, BMW CCA\, IMSA\, etc.). Once you have your member number\, please follow these instructions to add it to your profile. \nALL DRIVERS AND COACHES must register and pay the appropriate registration fee. Coaches who will not be driving can register for free. Coaches who will only be driving a registered driver’s car for a lap or two (e.g.\, to perform reconnaissance\, set baselines\, etc.) are also allowed to register for free. \nVEHICLE NOTE: You do not need to drive an Audi to participate in this event. Convertibles are only permitted IF approved safety equipment is installed. High center-of-gravity vehicles (e.g.\, SUVs\, CUVs\, etc.) are also restricted.
